Exercise Motivation Tips

If you’re anything like most people, you’ve experienced something like this:  you come home after a long day’s work.  You were going to do a workout, but you’re simply too tired—so exhausted you don’t even want to think about it.  You’re not alone!  Two of the biggest reasons people give for skipping a workout are lack of time and fatigue.  Here are five things you can do to beat the blahs and get moving when you think you’re too tired to exercise:

Have Your Iron Levels Checked

If feeling fatigued and having no motivation is a common thing in your life, you may want to get your iron levels checked.  Low iron in your blood will definitely lead to lethargy and lack of energy.  If it turns out that your iron levels are low, your doctor may prescribe an iron supplement which will go a long way toward restoring your energy level and getting you pumped up to exercise.

Exercise First Thing in the Morning

If you find yourself coming home in the evenings and being too tired to work out, simply switch your workout to the morning.  Go to sleep a half-hour earlier and get up a half-hour earlier.  When you get your exercise session out of the way first thing in the morning, you’ll usually find yourself full of energy and motivation for the rest of the day.  Not to mention the fact that you know you can just relax when you get home!

But it’s true: the best cure for not wanting to workout is usually just to start working out.  Once you get going, your body seems to magically find the energy.

Lighten Up Your Workout

If you are really tired, try doing a lighter workout than normal.  A slower running pace or lifting lighter weights might be what’s called for.  Again, odds are that once you get started your body will find the energy to keep going.

Mix Things Up

For those times you feel particularly dead, try changing up your workout completely.  Do something fun!  Something like watch your favorite TV show and do push ups during the commercials.  Or maybe go out dancing—now, that’s some serious exercise!  You can go back to your normal schedule at your next workout, and the variety will be good for you, your body and your mindset.

So, next time you feel too tired to exercise, give one of these tips a try.  Before you know it, you’ll no longer need the old excuse of being too tired to exercise and you’ll be well on your way to looking and feeling like a new person!
